Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made a controversial statement about Luka Doncic

Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd is confident in stating that All-Star guard Luka Doncic stands as the greatest player in the team's history.

Kidd went beyond merely suggesting that Doncic has outshone Dirk Nowitzki as the top player to don a Mavericks jersey. Speaking on Dallas radio station 97.1 The Freak's "The Downbeat" on Tuesday, Kidd asserted that 24-year-old Doncic should be mentioned alongside Michael Jordan and a select few as one of the NBA's all-time greats.


Kidd's audacious remarks came following Doncic's historically impressive three-game streak, starting with a staggering 73 points during Friday's victory against the Atlanta Hawks. This was the most remarkable scoring feat in the NBA since Bryant's legendary 81-point game.


Despite his achievements, Dallas has seen limited postseason triumphs during the career of the five-time All-Star. While Doncic boasts a playoff average of 32.5 points per game, second only to Jordan's 33.4, the Mavericks have only once moved past the first round with him, making it to the Western Conference finals in 2022. Last year, they didn't even make the playoffs.

However, Kidd confidently places Doncic among the all-time greats and anticipates that championship victories are in his future. He notes that at this point in his career, even Jordan hadn't secured a championship yet.
