Luka Doncic Breaks 37 Year Old Scoring Record

Although Slovenia had a disappointing run in the FIBA World Cup, finishing seventh overall, star player Luka Doncic had a historic showing at the tournament. The Mavericks guard was forced to carry a heavy load for his national side due to the recent injury of his Slovenian running mate, Vlatko Cancar, which excluded him from the tournament.

Throughout the tournament, Luka averaged 27 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists, all of which led as team highs for Slovenia. This impressive form saw Slovenia qualify at the top of Group F, where Doncic was named the player of the group.

However, the most impressive feat of Doncic's play was the points he scored. In particular, his offensive consistency allowed Luka to break the 200-point barrier, a feat that had not been achieved since 1986. In fact, only three players in the history of the FIBA World Cup have ever scored over 200 points in a single tournament.

Shin Dong-pa (7 games, 1970)
Nikos Galis (6 games, 1986)
Drazen Petrovic (8 games, 1986).

With historically great players such as Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, and LeBron James all having played in multiple tournaments, it puts this incredible achievement into perspective. Consider that Luka is only 24 years old, and this was his first World Cup.
