Jamal Murray was absent from the Denver Nuggets' face-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night due to an ongoing recovery from a sprained left ankle and a swollen right knee.

Denver's need for him was evident as they suffered a 111-98 defeat, allowing the Timberwolves to tie for first place in the Western Conference, pushing the defending NBA champions, the Nuggets, down to third place behind Oklahoma City.

Ahead of the game, Denver coach Michael Malone noted Murray's progress but expressed that he wasn't yet prepared to compete at the required level. Malone suggested that Murray might also sit out the Nuggets' Sunday game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he remained optimistic about the star point guard's swift return.

"I do think he will be back on the court before the playoffs start," in mid-April, Malone said.
