With a lot of expectation surrounding this season's Los Angeles Lakers, many fans have quickly criticized and trashed star big man Anthony Davis due to his inconsistent play lately. One Lakers teammate has reacted and called out the online hatred.

Anthony Davis Recent Form

With LeBron turning 39 next month and his future with the Lakers uncertain, Anthony Davis has been positioned as the new leader of the Los Angeles Lakers. This added responsibility has brought about higher expectations for the 30-year-old.

While the Lakers have had a good start to the season with a current record of 10-7, much of their success has been attributed to the superhuman efforts of LeBron James, whereas Anthony Davis has somewhat fallen short of his potential.

Despite averaging a double-double of points and rebounds with a 54.9% field goal percentage, many of Davis's games have been lackluster. His form has been incredibly inconsistent, with an equal number of games scoring over 30 points as those scoring under 10 this season. The worst of his form was evident during the Lakers' recent loss to the Mavericks, where Davis only scored 10 points.

Following this performance, social media erupted with hundreds of fans attacking Davis online, including one NBA analyst who brutally disgraced the Brow on live TV.

Austin Reaves Defends Davis

Following the online attack on Davis, he bounced back in the Lakers' following game, dropping 32 points with 3 blocks and 13 rebounds as Los Angeles defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While one game is not enough to disregard his varying performances, Austin Reaves has spoken out in defense of Davis. He cited that even in his supposed bad games, AD contributes a lot more to the game than average fans realize.

"Everybody's quick to murder AD when he has an off night. ... He's affecting the game more than what the average human is picking up on"

It's true that a statsheet doesn't always convey the full story of a player's performance. However, considering how often we've seen Davis struggle this year, it's becoming increasingly evident that he hasn't played up to the standard set for him. ESPN ranked him as the 10th best player in the NBA before the season started, and he hasn't met that expectation so far.
