Last night saw two of the Western conference Favourites face off for the first time as the Los Angeles played the Dallas Mavericks. With both teams loaded wit talent and off to an impressive start this game looked on paper to be a preview of a potential playoff matchup next year.

Lakers vs Mavericks

This game prominently showcased two of the league's best players as Doncic and James engaged in a tight contest, with both stars coming close to recording a triple-double. However, the game didn't always appear so evenly matched. In fact, the Lakers faced a daunting 20-point deficit in the 4th quarter, requiring an extraordinary effort from LeBron, who scored 13 points in that quarter alone.

Despite their impressive comeback, their lead was short-lived. During the final minute, the Mavericks swiftly responded when James' former teammate, Kyrie Irving, nailed a remarkably clutch 3-pointer. Sensing a defensive disadvantage for the Mavericks, the Lakers opted to continue playing without calling a timeout. They entrusted the ball to their two stars, James and Davis, who unfortunately fumbled it.

Lebron Fumbles at the End

Known for numerous late-game heroics, LeBron has built a career on being clutch. He currently ranks second all-time in game-winning shots made and holds the highest field goal percentage in attempted game-winners. Despite this track record, in last night's loss, he seemed to falter in the clutch as his late-game turnover became the decisive factor in the Lakers' defeat.

With just 21 seconds remaining, LeBron attempted a lob pass to Anthony Davis, who was being covered by Luka Doncic. This mismatch in size seemingly justified the attempt, but the execution fell short. LeBron's pass was off-target, leading to Richaun Holmes tipping the ball and forcing a crucial turnover.

Lebron Reacts

As the biggest name in the NBA, James faces the media after every match, and last night's game was no different. In contrast to his hilarious reaction after the Jazz game, LeBron's mood was notably different, acknowledging his fault for the loss. He took full responsibility for his errant pass attempt and owned up to his mistake.

«Left it a little short. Left it a little short,» James said. «Right read, just as a quarterback, I left it short. I didn't lead my receiver and got picked off.»
