LeBron James Aiming for Lucrative Three-Year Deal with LA

LeBron James, a 20-time forward for the Los Angeles Lakers and currently the oldest player in the NBA, is exploring the possibility of extending his career until his age-42 season.

Standing at 6'9", the superstar could potentially opt out of his current $51.4 million deal for the 2024-25 season this summer. ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who has covered James since his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, suggests that James is aiming to stay in Los Angeles, presumably to finish his career, with a new contract.

«I don't think this is LeBron's last stand, I don't think this is the Lakers' last stand, «First off, I think LeBron is angling to sign a multi-year deal in the offseason with the Lakers that will be nine figures. That will be even bigger than the deal he is on now. Now, whether or not he's able to finish that deal, whether or not the Lakers want to give him a three-year contract and pay him $60 million when he's 42 years old, that's a different discussion.»

Windhorst said

Despite his lengthy career and numerous playoff appearances, LeBron James continues to excel on the court. As he enters his 21st season, he remains a top player and a significant draw for fans. Given his past underpayment, it could be time for Los Angeles owner Jeanie Buss to adequately compensate him.
