It looks like the Clippers are playing some hardball to keep Tyronn Lue from jumping ship to the Lakers. NBA insiders Sam Amick and Law Murray of The Athletic report that the Clippers are set to block any moves by their city rivals to snatch their head coach. Lue, who famously led LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to an historic NBA Championship in 2016, reversing a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals, is high on the Lakers' list to replace Darvin Ham.

Despite their interest, the Clippers aren't just sitting back. They're actively working on securing Lue with an extension, especially after a tough playoff exit, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in six games during the first round of the 2024 playoffs. Remember, under Lue's guidance, the Clippers reached the Western Conference finals in his debut season, showcasing his capability to push the team deep into the postseason.

Lue's relationship with LeBron is well-documented, making him a prime candidate for the Lakers. However, with a regular-season record of 184-134 and a playoff record of 13-17 with the Clippers, Lue has proven his worth and it seems the Clippers are determined to keep him around.

As for Lue, he was an assistant under Doc Rivers before taking the reins when Rivers left in 2020. Since then, Lue has been instrumental in maintaining the Clippers' competitive edge, although they've yet to make their first NBA Finals appearance. The coaching carousel is spinning, and it looks like the Clippers are holding tight to their man.
