LeBron James is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. As he closes in 40 years of age, questions about his potential retirement have been asked. Now, it seems like he could be closer than ever to calling it quits.

Tonight, LeBron James had one of the most impressive outings of his NBA career. Despite being 39 years old, he ended up dropping 40 points on the Brooklyn Nets. It was a performance that was bolstered by five assists and seven rebounds. Additionally, it was a performance that propelled the Lakers to a 116-104 victory. This was a crucial win for the Lakers as they are fighting for one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference.

After the game, LeBron was asked about how he continues to perform at such a high level despite his age. In his 21st NBA season, LeBron still goes about his business like a top-10 player. However, he seems to be questioning his own NBA mortality right now. In fact, LeBron admitted he doesn't actually have much time left right now.

"I don't know when that door will close as far as when I retire, but I don't have much time left."

If LeBron were to retire at the end of this season, he would go down as one of the top two players in the history of the game. That said, he has expressed interest in playing with his sons Bronny and Bryce. One would have to imagine he would rather wait and see that through before finally calling it a career.

Whatever the case, the Lakers have a long road ahead if LeBron wants his fifth NBA title. They are ninth in the Western Conference and boast a record of 42-33. If the season were to end today, they would have to play the Golden State Warriors in a play-in game. From there, they would have to beat either the Sacramento Kings or the Phoenix Suns to get into the playoffs.
