In Philadelphia, Sixers coach Nick Nurse voiced optimism about reigning MVP Joel Embiid's potential return before the conclusion of the regular season.

"I think there's a very good likelihood that he will return before the play-in, playoff," Nurse said before the Sixers' game Wednesday night against the LA Clippers.

Since January 30th, Joel Embiid hasn't played due to an injury sustained when Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors fell on his leg during a game in San Francisco. In Embiid's absence, the 76ers have posted a 10-16 record, ranking 10th in the Eastern Conference standings. This situation has led them to be involved in the play-in tournament mix. However, if Embiid, who was leading the league in scoring with 35.3 points per game before his injury, returns in the next ten games, the team's fortunes could change drastically.

It's been seven weeks since Embiid underwent surgery on the lateral meniscus in his left knee. While Coach Nurse emphasized that there's no specific timeline for his return, he mentioned that Embiid is actively engaging in on-court activities.

"I haven't met with him," Nurse said. "I have talked with him, FaceTimed with him a couple times. He's on the court, as you guys know, and we still don't have a timeline for his return."

Nurse continued: "I would imagine he's getting better each day. It's just trying to get him strong and confident and in shape and ramped up and all those wonderful words."

Nurse mentioned he'll offer updates as Embiid advances through contact practices and other necessary steps ahead of his potential comeback.

ESPN's Basketball Power Index forecasted the Sixers to land eighth in the Eastern Conference standings with 44 wins, trailing the Miami Heat by one and the Indiana Pacers by two before Wednesday's matchups. The Sixers face the Heat next week.

Philadelphia boasts a 26-8 record when Embiid is on the court but struggles at 13-25 without him this season.
