D'Angelo Russell is facing severe criticism from fans after a controversial decision he made regarding his player option this offseason.

It comes as no surprise that Los Angeles Lakers fans are expressing their discontent due to his underwhelming performance during the 2024 NBA playoffs. Not only was his team completely outplayed by the Denver Nuggets, but he also made negative headlines by being caught using his phone during the game and displaying a lack of camaraderie. However, it is not just the incident of texting that has infuriated fans.

Now, the former number two overall pick has stirred up more controversy by declining his player option for the Lakers, suggesting his desire to leave the organization and explore opportunities in free agency. In simple terms, the fan base has turned against him, no longer wanting him to stay. This presents a challenging situation for Lakers management, who ideally should have traded Russell before the deadline when his value was higher.

Unfortunately, after a disappointing postseason performance and evident attitude problems, his value has diminished, making it potentially problematic to find a suitable trade. As a result, fans are expressing their anger towards General Manager Rob Pelinka and Russell, with social media platforms like X (formally known as twitter) serving as a platform for their vehement criticism.

Rough times are surely ahead for the Laker faithful. If Russell decides to return, the fans won't want him. If he gets traded, the return won't be worthwhile due to his significant depreciation in value. The LA Lakers are in for a very tough offseason.
