Oakland guard Jack Gohlke joined an elite group in NCAA Tournament history by sinking 10 3-pointers in a single game on Thursday. His stellar performance propelled the No. 14 seed Grizzlies to an 80-76 victory over the No. 3 seed Kentucky. Gohlke concluded the game with a career-high 32 points, marking the highlight of his lone season as a Division I player.

Gohlke, previously ranked second nationally in 3-point attempts for the season with 327, ascended to the top spot by halftime as he successfully made 7 out of 13 attempts from beyond the arc. This surge helped the Grizzlies secure a 38-35 lead going into the break. Despite being 6-foot-3, Gohlke has only attempted eight 2-point shots all season and adhered to his shooting style against Kentucky, with all 20 of his shots coming from beyond the 3-point line.

"He better hit seven more if we're going to win," Oakland coach Greg Kampe said at halftime.

Gohlke didn't fully comply with that demand, yet he managed to sink three additional 3-pointers post halftime, aiding Oakland in clinching its inaugural NCAA Tournament win. Every successful shot he made in the latter half expanded their lead from a one-possession to a two-possession game.

Following the Grizzlies' triumph and advancement to the next round, Gohlke expressed his belief that Oakland possesses the potential for another victory.

"We're not a cinderella," he told CBS Sports sideline reporter Evan Washburn to end his postgame interview.

In his debut season with Oakland, Gohlke, the Horizon League Sixth Man of the Year, showcased his knack for hitting crucial shots, a skill honed over the course of his collegiate career. Transitioning from Division II Hillsdale, where he spent five years, Gohlke embarked on his sixth year of eligibility as a senior with the Grizzlies.

Before arriving at Oakland, Gohlke's journey through college basketball was one of gradual progression. Commencing with a redshirt season and limited playing time at Hillsdale, it wasn't until his fifth year in Division II during the 2022-23 season that Gohlke emerged as a consistent double-digit scorer.

Last season at Hillsdale, Gohlke demonstrated his prowess from beyond the arc, connecting on 40% of his 3-point attempts while averaging 8.2 shots per game. His transfer to Oakland for his final year of eligibility in Division I presented new challenges, marked by fluctuating performances early in the season. Despite initial struggles, including a 1-of-10 outing against Michigan State, Gohlke's resilience persisted.

However, when the stakes were highest in the Horizon League Tournament, Gohlke rose to the occasion, propelling Oakland to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2011. His standout performances in the final two games of the tournament, where he converted 12 of 26 3-point attempts, set the stage for a memorable display against the Wildcats on the national stage.
