Sudden Change for Spencer Dinwiddie: New Team's Decision

The Toronto Raptors have announced a trade deal involving point guard Dennis Schroder and forward Thad Young to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie. Subsequently, the Raptors waived Dinwiddie, who was in the final year of a three-year, $54-million deal signed in 2021, resulting in a saving of $1.5 million in upcoming bonuses.

Despite Dinwiddie's decline in scoring this season, averaging 12.6 points per game on 39.1% shooting, the Raptors are retaining forward Bruce Brown, acquired from the Indiana Pacers. Schroder, in his first season with Toronto after joining in free agency, holds a contract through 2024-25 with a second-year option, while Young's expiring $8-million deal serves for salary matching purposes.
