In Game 1 of the Denver Nuggets' first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers, Jamal Murray had a rough night, shooting just 9-of-24 from the field. His struggles continued into the early stages of Game 2, contributing to the Nuggets trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half. Denver seemed unable to counter the effective pick-and-roll offense executed by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. A loss in Game 2 would have shifted the series to Los Angeles with both teams tied at 1-1, and the Lakers poised to take control of home-court advantage.

However, the Nuggets orchestrated one of the most remarkable comebacks seen in playoff history. As the Lakers showed signs of fatigue from Denver's high altitude, they struggled defensively. Murray and Nikola Jokic exploited this, dominating with repeated pick-and-roll plays. In the final minutes, Murray scored crucial points, tying the game at 97 with two free throws and again at 99 with a mid-range jumper. With just seconds left on the clock and following a rebounded missed three by James, Murray had the ball with a chance to clinch the victory. Guarded by Davis, he drove, pulled back towards the corner, and released a fadeaway jumper that swished through as the buzzer sounded.

Murray ended the game with 20 points, 14 of which came in a thrilling fourth quarter. Jokic achieved a triple-double, scoring 27 points, grabbing 20 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. Michael Porter Jr. contributed 22 points, and Aaron Gordon added 14 for the Nuggets. On the Lakers' side, Davis led with 32 points, James added 26, and D'Angelo Russell scored 23, hitting a career playoff-high seven 3-pointers.
