The 4-time NBA champion, Klay Thompson, has participated in 2 major competitions representing the USA national team. However, as the 2024 Olympics in Paris draw nearer, the Golden State Warrior has been linked to potentially playing for the Bahamas.

Klay's eligibility to play for the Bahamas stems from his Bahamian father, Mychal Thompson, who also had a career in the NBA. In order for Klay to represent another nation, the United States would need to release Thompson, and FIBA would authorize the switch if it's deemed to be in the best interest of basketball, as an established star joins a developing national team program.

When asked about the possibility of his son joining the Bahamas national team Mychal gave very little away simply answering
We'll see

The Bahamas are through to Olympic qualifiers after going 4-0 in pre qualifiers led by Eric Gordon but due to Gordon going through a similar situation of switching nationalities the Bahamas would have to choose between him and Thompson. FIBA rulings declare that teams are only allowed one naturalised player so both aren't eligible to play together.

Even though Thompson Joining would result in losing Gordon, 3 more NBA stars could potentially Join the Bahamas team in 2024. Those being brothers Evan and Isaiah Mobley as well as Timberwolves big man Naz Reid. Including existing star player Deandre Ayton if they are able to obtain Thompson as well as the 3 aforementioned stars the Bahamas will be a very formidable side for future competitions and will be looking to make a run for Medals in Paris next year.
