The Los Angeles Clippers are eager to lock in Ty Lue for the long term

The LA Clippers are reportedly gearing up to keep Tyronn Lue around for the long haul. According to sources, they're eyeing an extension that would prevent Lue from hitting the final year of his current contract in the 2025-26 season. This move comes amidst rumors that Lue is on the Lakers' radar for their coaching vacancy, among other potential offers.

Despite the Clippers' season wrapping up with a Game 6 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas, the team's leadership remains bullish on Lue's future in LA. The Clippers, who finished the season with a respectable 51-31 record and clinched the fourth seed in the Western Conference, see Lue as a key piece of their long-term strategy.

"I didn't come here to bounce around and go all over the place," he said after Friday's loss to Dallas. "And Mr. [Steve] Ballmer, Lawrence [Frank], Mark [Hughes], Trent [Redden], Gillian [Zucker], they've all been great to me. This is where I want to be, and hopefully they feel the same way. So I haven't had a bad experience since I've been here. Mr. Ballmer showed me a lot of different things that I wouldn't be privy to if I wasn't here. ... Just having a great relationship with the owner, with the front office, it is great. And so I would love to be here long term."

When prodded about the whispers linking him to the Lakers, Lue acknowledged the flattery, saying, "It's great to be wanted," but affirmed his commitment to the Clippers. It's worth noting that the Lakers had previously made a play for Lue in 2019, but couldn't nail down the contract details. Now, with the Clippers stepping up, it looks like they're set to make sure Lue stays put, showing just how much they value his leadership.
