In a recent revelation, Jeanie Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, shed light once again on a disturbing incident involving her and an NBA owner. Known for her resilience, Buss shared how she faced inappropriate behavior, labeling it as "bullying" and "intimidation." Instead of backing down, Buss bravely stood up for herself.

The Disturbing Incident: Buss's Bold Confrontation

The incident, initially disclosed in her 2010 book "Laker Girl," unfolded in 1995 during her first NBA board of governors meeting, according to the LA Times. Despite the discomfort, Buss refused to let the experience define her. Instead, she confronted the NBA owner involved, ensuring he was the one to step back.

In a recent interview on "In Depth with Graham Bensinger," Buss revisited the incident, recounting her feelings at the time. Buss acknowledged that without the confidence instilled in her by her father, she might have wanted to "shrink" and disappear during that shocking moment.

Describing the incident, Buss stated,
"As we were taking a break, waiting in line for the buffet during lunch break, somebody grabs my ass. And I turn around, and, you know, I was so shocked."
She emphasized the importance of the confidence her father instilled in her, preventing her from succumbing to the discomfort.

Buss's Resilience and Response

When asked about her response, Buss revealed that she gave the owner a "dirty look" and signaled for him to "back off." Despite the incident, Buss continued to assert herself. Reflecting on that time, she admitted feeling self-conscious and questioning her belonging in the group.

Following the incident, Buss chose to stay in her room, realizing that gaining the respect of existing ownership groups might be a challenge. However, this experience fueled her determination to support those who would come after her as NBA team owners.

Supporting New Owners

Buss shared her commitment, saying,
"But everybody that came after me, I could help them in the room because they'd be new — they'd be the new person."
She highlighted her support for new owners, citing her assistance to Mark Cuban, ensuring they feel empowered and supported in the league.

Jeanie Buss's story is not just one of personal resilience but also a commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment in the NBA. As she continues to lead the Lakers, Buss remains dedicated to empowering others and championing positive change in the league.
