On Monday, sources informed ESPN that Lakers forward Christian Wood will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is anticipated to be out of action for several weeks.

Wood has been sidelined for over a month due to swelling in his knee that surfaced during the All-Star break.

The 28-year-old center inked a one-year, veteran's minimum deal with the Lakers last offseason. So far this season, he has posted averages of 6.9 points on 46.6% shooting from the field (with a 30.7% rate from beyond the arc) along with 5.1 rebounds across 50 games.

The Lakers currently cling to a narrow advantage over the Golden State Warriors for the 9th seed in the Western Conference with just 13 games left in the regular season, which concludes on April 14th.

With Lakers star Anthony Davis grappling with his own injuries, the team faces a pressing need for perimeter defense, a role Wood has been able to fulfill. Now, if both players are sidelined for an extended period, the Lakers will need to redouble their efforts, particularly on the defensive end. They can ill afford mistakes if they hope to secure a playoff berth.
