Stephen A Smith TORCHES the Knicks after failing to trade for Donovan Mitchell.

After the KD saga was over, Donovan Mitchell became the most coveted star on the market. The Utah Jazz are clearly headed for a serious rebuild with GM Danny Ainge shipping All Star Centre Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves earlier this summer.

His next move was to trade Donovan Mitchell and hopefully get a similar return package as he did for Gobert ( 5 First round picks). The favourable destination for Mitchell was the New York Knicks, the Knicks have been involved in the Mitchell rumours ever since the start of the off season. We all thought that if the Jazz were going to move Mitchell, it was just going to be a matter of time before he becomes a Knick.

Well a clock is wrong twice a day, time will not always be in your favour. The Knicks decided to sign RJ Barrett to a rookie extension and the following day the Jazz decided to ship Mitchell to their Eastern Conference rival, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mitchell had a good season last year averaging 25.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 5.3 APG for the Jazz.

The full package included Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji, Lauri Markkanen, three unprotected first-round picks, and two pick swaps.


The internets reaction to this trade was like all of us, absolutely shocked that the Knicks didn't make a move for Mitchell. They decided to pass on the opportunity to pair him with Jalen Brunson and create a deadly backcourt duo.

Rumours are that Canadian guard RJ Barrett was the key piece for the Jazz in a potential trade for Mitchell. However, once the Knicks signed RJ Barrett, the Jazz moved on quickly and decided to trade Mitchell to the Cavs.

The Cavs could look very scary for this upcoming season. With a starting lineup that includes all star guard Darius Garland, Mitchell, Levert, Mobley and Jarred Allen. On paper, the Cavs should make the playoffs this year and possibly even win a round.

This would be the first time the Cavs make the playoffs since Lebron James left them for LA. It took a long time, but its definitely worth it at the moment.
