The Lakers Almost Signed This NBA Superstar Instead of Rajon Rondo

It was announced today that Rajon Rondo had agreed to sign with the Lakers for a one-year, $2.6 million. Rondo was recently traded to the Memphis Grizzlies but accepted a contract buyout before the season began.

While this is great news for Rondo and fans of the fiery, iconic point guard, it's bad news for a different NBA player: Isaiah Thomas. According to Jon Krawczynski, LA was very close to signing Thomas...until Rondo became available.

Thomas has been attempting to build an NBA comeback after being on the sidelines for a few years. The once-promising point guard still has a lot of fight and skill left in him, all he needs is a team willing to take a chance on him. It looked like the Lakers were thinking about it but, in the end, they went with Rondo.

That doesn't mean it's the end of the road for Thomas and his NBA career but his path to suiting up in the association again just got a little more narrow.
