Jason Kidd has his work cut out for him now that he's the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. The team is already this close to being straight-up fantastic and has one of the best players in the association, Luka Doncic. However, they keep missing their chance to go all the way and fans are starting to get impatient. Kidd needs to fix that situation ASAP.

He might have help from former NBA player Jared Dudley. Marc Stein reports that Dudley, who most recently played for the Lakers in his long, storied career, is having "advanced discussions" to join the Mavericks as an assistant coach.

Dudley has always been a supporting player in the NBA and has been known for his enthusiasm and wisdom, especially in the later years of his career. Those are attributes that would obviously come in handy as an assistant coach. Working under Kidd makes sense because, as Stein noted, Kidd was Dudley's assistant coach when he worked with the Lakers. They probably have a good relationship and understand each other. That would make this hiring a very smart one for the Mavs.
