Miami heat Star Unhappy With Trade Rumors

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has been reported as being "unhappy" with speculation involving trade scenarios that would send him to the Portland Trailblazers. At the beginning of the offseason, Damian Lillard requested a trade from the Trailblazers and cited the Heat as his only preferred destination. Due to the large salary and star power of Lillard, it seems unlikely that a trade scenario could play out that involves Herro staying with the Heat. This has been reported as making the 23-year-old unhappy, as he wishes to remain in Miami for the foreseeable future.

NBA insider Chris Mannix stated that Herro has a high opinion of his own talents and doesn't believe he should be considered as trade filler for another player. The former Kentucky Wildcat is still a young prospect with room to grow, but he has already started to turn heads by averaging 20 points over the last two seasons and winning an NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.

«I know—I'm fairly certain about this, Tyler Herro has not been pleased by all that's gone on in Miami this offseason how he's been bandied about as filler in trade talks. Tyler Herro believes he is on a certain level. He has not been happy with how his name has been tossed around in trade talks."

Herro is currently signed to a four-year, $120,000,000 contract set to expire at the end of the 2026-2027 season. With recently drafted Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons on their roster, it is unlikely that the Trailblazers will want to add another guard, especially one with such a high contract. This makes the most likely scenario a multi-team trade, with speculation that the Toronto Raptors may be interested in acquiring Herro.

The Raptors lost All-Star guard Fred VanVleet this offseason, and a young Tyler Herro may be a core piece they look to build around as they enter a rebuilding phase for the next few seasons. For now, Herro remains with the Heat, but Brian Windhorst's claims that the Heat are the only team actively pursuing Damian Lillard make it almost certain that any trade involving Dame will require, at a minimum, Herro and some draft assets.
