Per NBA insider Jovan Buha from The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers are set to chase after Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks this offseason. Additionally, it's worth noting that Young, alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, shares the same agent, Rich Paul from Klutch Sports Group.

''The one name I continually hear is Trae Young,» Buha said. «He's been to Laker playoff games before. He's a Klutch Sports client. That's probably the most realistic one right now.''

Regarded as one of the NBA's premier guards, Young's current stint on the sidelines is due to a finger injury, casting uncertainty over his return this season. Prior to his injury, Young showcased impressive stats, averaging 26.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game, along with notable shooting percentages. Securing a lucrative extension with the Hawks in 2021, he stands to earn substantial sums in the coming seasons.

Despite his impressive career stats, Young lacks a no-trade clause, fueling speculation about potential trade scenarios, especially given discussions between the Hawks and the Spurs earlier this season, as reported by Howard Beck of The Ringer.

In 2020, the Lakers clinched a title with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the charge, supported by a solid cast of defenders and shooters. However, as LeBron's career progresses, the need for another star and playmaker became evident. The addition of Russell Westbrook didn't pan out as expected.

This season, they've reverted to a similar formula but face inconsistency in shooting and overall performance, compounded by injuries, leaving them ninth in the West and far from championship contention.

Possibly available, Young or Murray from Atlanta could be on the move this summer. The Lakers must weigh if Young is the right fit given his hefty contract and style of play. While he brings elite scoring and playmaking, his defensive shortcomings and chemistry concerns raise questions about building a championship team around him alongside LeBron and Anthony Davis.

With few alternatives, the Lakers may consider pursuing Young or Murray, but they'll likely explore other options as well. LeBron's impending free agency and desire for upgrades will push the front office to make moves, making their offseason decisions intriguing to observe.
