Draymond Green Was Thinking Ending his NBA Career after Suspension

The NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, has been highly praised for his leadership role within the league since 2014. Since his appointment, he has been notably active in efforts to enhance the NBA as a whole. Examples include the addition of the play-in tournament and this year's NBA In-season tournament. His most recent achievement, however, is even more surprising: it has been revealed that Silver single-handedly talked a superstar out of retiring this year.

Surprising Retirement Plans

The star in question is Draymond Green, who revealed in a recent episode of his podcast, 'The Draymond Green Show,' that his recent on-court controversies had made him question his place in the league before the acting commissioner reassured him.

The four-time champion Green has clearly been facing personal issues this season. Less than halfway through the season, he has already recorded a career high in ejections after physical altercations with stars Rudy Gobert, Domantas Sabonis, and Jusuf Nurkic. Following his most recent incident, Green was suspended indefinitely, during which time he revealed his intention to retire to Silver.

"I told him, 'Adam this is too much for me. ... This is too much. It's all becoming too much for me -- and I'm going to retire,'"

Commissioner Talked Him Out

Now 33 years old, Green has been showing signs of regression, and it is safe to say that we won't be seeing him for too many more seasons. However, when presented with the idea of retiring imminently, Silver was quick to change the mind of the four-time champion, Green.

'You're making a very rash decision and I won't let you do that.'

After an apparent lengthy discussion, Silver managed to change the mind of the former Defensive Player of the Year, who has made his return from suspension this week to rejoin the Golden State Warriors. Green praised Silver for caring about the players in the league and was clearly thankful for their discussion, as it allows him to continue his storied career and attempt to help the Warriors win their 5th championship in 9 seasons.

"We had a long, great conversation -- very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who's more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He's more about the players."
