On February 15th, Head Coach Steve Kerr made a bold decision by moving Klay Thompson to the Golden State Warriors' bench. Thompson, aged 34, had faced challenges maintaining consistency on both ends of the floor while playing in the starting lineup. However, he has gradually thrived in his new role coming off the bench. Thompson delivered another stellar performance against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, March 16th, scoring 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Following the Warriors' 128-121 victory, Draymond Green shared with the media that Thompson's performances significantly improved once he embraced his new role.

«It shows his maturity,» Green said. «He's been starting since halfway through his rookie season. And to have a resume like he has. Build up an organization like he has. And then you're asked to take on a bench role. There's not many people that know how that feels, but there was a bunch of people that wanted to judge him. I thought that early on, he was too worried about how people were judging him, and now he don't care. And once he stop caring, his game did what we know Klay Thompson is capable of doingWe want to extend this as long as we can. THis is our baby. We built this thing from the ground up.»

Even though he's coming off the bench, Thompson is still getting substantial minutes comparable to a starter. Kerr's aim is to capitalize on advantageous matchups for the seasoned shooter while maintaining equilibrium throughout the Golden State lineup. Once the season concludes, the front office is expected to initiate contract discussions with Thompson, who will enter unrestricted free agency in the summer.
