After a disappointing run with the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell Westbrook's NBA future appeared uncertain. He had seemingly inked his last big contract and faced the possibility of signing one-year deals moving forward.

While Westbrook's status as a first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the league's greatest guards was secure, his time with the Lakers didn't do him any favors. It was unclear which team would take a chance on him after he was traded to the Utah Jazz and subsequently bought out.

Interestingly, Westbrook didn't need to leave his hometown. The Los Angeles Clippers were willing to bring him in for the remainder of the regular season and the ensuing playoffs.

Luckily for Westbrook, he managed to revive his career with the Clippers, seamlessly fitting in and displaying glimpses of his former self. This led to the team extending his contract during the summer.

According to Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, Westbrook willingly accepted a reduced salary to stay with the team, as reported by NBA insider Marc Stein and Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report via Legion Hoops.

It appears that Westbrook is content with his career earnings and is more focused on winning. He seems to appreciate his role on the Clippers and the team's potential for success moving forward.

The future looks intriguing for Westbrook in Los Angeles, especially if the team can acquire James Harden, which could add an interesting twist to the mix.
