Is Joel Embiid Going To request a Trade?

The Philadelphia 76ers have been the focus of a lot of talk this off season but not for any positive reasons. They fired head coach Doc Rivers after an unsuccessful playoff run ending in the 2nd round against the Boston Celtics. And in recent weeks have been making headlines for a very tense situation involving star guard James Harden whom publicly outed Sixers president Daryl Morey resulting in a $100k Fine for his comments.

At this point the relationship between the 76ers and James harden appears irreparable and he is expected to be traded away over the coming weeks. If this does happen Harden would then become the 3rd marquee talent to have left Philadelphia over the previous 4 seasons joining Jimmy Butler and Ben Simmons who each moved on from the organisation.

Insider reports suggest that if Harden is eventually traded that it may result in the current MVP Embiid following suite and also asking out. Embiid is coming off of his best season yet where he averaged 33 points and 10 rebounds per game, he also recorded a career high in field goal% and assists per game. Despite this there is still a lot of pressure on Embiid to win now with previous injury problems preventing him from ever playing more than 68 regular season games in a single season. On top of this Joel is now the only MVP award winner to have never made it to a conference finals which must add pressure considering how often he shares his dreams of winning an NBA Championship.

With a look at how over the past 4 seasons the Philadelphia 76ers organisation have made no progress on improving in the post season and whilst teams such as the Celtics, Cavaliers and even New York Knicks have made jumps to improve it is easy to see why Embiid may eventually become frustrated with with the 76ers and one insider close to the situation stated this;

"well, the big fella (Joel Embiid). Eventually he's gonna get fed up with this"

Just last month Embiid himself acknowledged the possibility of leaving Philadelphia to compete for championships when he he said this in an interview;

"I just want to win a championship. Whatever it takes. I don't know where that's gonna be. Whether it's in Philly or anywhere else. I just want to have a chance."

It should be noted that Embiid later changed his stance and claimed to have been "trolling" but with these new reports and rumours you can easily take either stance on this one.

For now it is uncertain how the situation on Philly will unfold but as we come closer to the start of the new NBA season u can be sure to find out soon enough.
