Trae Young, the All-Star guard, is progressing to the next phase of his recovery from finger surgery, as announced by the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. However, his return to the lineup remains uncertain. Following his operation on February 27 to mend a torn ligament in his left pinkie finger, Young underwent a one-month follow-up examination.

The team reported his recovery progress, mentioning he will start gentle finger exercises this week. However, his return timeline to the Hawks (32-39), who currently occupy the last SoFi Play-In Tournament spot in the Eastern Conference, remains uncertain with roughly three weeks left in the regular season.

Young sustained the injury during a Feb. 23 game against Toronto, averaging 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game. Despite his absence, the Hawks have managed an 8-7 record, notably overcoming a 30-point deficit to secure a 120-118 victory against the NBA-leading Boston Celtics on Monday.

Trade Rumors

For a while now, Young has been associated with the Spurs, especially given the potential synergy with Victor Wembanyama. Known for his offensive prowess, Young's exceptional shooting range and passing skills complement a defensive force like Wembanyama, creating an ideal pairing. Amidst swirling rumors, the spotlight remains on the Spurs and Young. In a recent interview with Taylor Rooks, Young attempted to downplay the speculations.

The partnership between Young and Murray hasn't yielded the anticipated success for the Hawks, prompting consideration of asset accumulation. With the Spurs holding three future draft picks from Atlanta, a potential deal could be on the horizon. As the Young era in Georgia faces uncertainty after minimal playoff achievements, Young maintains a composed stance towards trade rumors, acknowledging the transient nature of NBA careers. While it's unusual for a player to openly seek a trade mid-season, Young's response may reflect guidance from his media team.
