In recent years, the Golden State Warriors have been repeatedly questioned about the sustainability of their dynasty. Despite their 2022 title win buying them some time, concerns resurfaced after last season's early playoff exit and Draymond Green's free agency. Now, following a humbling postseason defeat to the Sacramento Kings and with Klay Thompson approaching unrestricted free agency, those questions have grown even louder.

"We need Klay back," Steve Kerr said after the game. "He's still got good years left. And I know I speak for everybody in the organization: We want him back. ... What Klay has meant to this franchise and as good as he still is, we desperately want him back."

The organization's aspiration is to preserve the trio of Thompson, Green, and Stephen Curry. However, it's undeniable that achieving this goal is more challenging than expressing it.

"It's rarely a storybook," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said at his exit interview Thursday. "Even the '96 or '98 Bulls, you know, the team was broken up and we won the championship in our last year but there was a documentary about what a disaster the whole thing was. It's impossible for this stuff to end perfectly. I do think there is a lot of value to having our three guys being Warriors for life. I think there's a lot of value in ending with dignity ... so, for those three I really want to see all of them finish their careers here but also finish out their careers with a sense of pride and dignity in what they're doing."

Green's significance to the Warriors hinges on his contributions to the team. According to Kerr, his value remains exceptionally high, to the extent that they can effectively manage any shortcomings he may have.

Currently, the Warriors regard preserving their core as more than mere sentimentality, recognizing its strategic importance in their future endeavors with the team. Both Dunleavy and Kerr conveyed their confidence in the remaining basketball prowess of Curry, Green, and Thompson. Nonetheless, for the Warriors to reclaim their playoff spot and vie for the championship, adjustments are imperative.
