Knicks Expected to Sign NBA Superstar

After missing the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons, the New York Knicks are beginning to successfully build a winning team. They have made the playoffs two out of the last three seasons and won their first playoff series since 2013 last year. This rebuild has been highlighted by the signing of free agents Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle, the latter of whom has made two All-Star appearances and won an NBA Most Improved Player award while representing the team.

After what will hopefully be another season of improvements, the Knicks are expected to sign one of three major superstars in next year's free agency period. The players in question are disgruntled stars Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo, as well as Donovan Mitchell, who almost joined his hometown Knicks last season.

This prediction comes from Bill Simmons of The Ringer, who has referred to it as less of a prediction and more of a certified guarantee.

«One of those three guys, I guarantee it, they'll get. Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Joel [Embiid] or [Donovan] Mitchell will be on that team a year from now»

«Giannis is probably the most likely to stay to me just because Milwaukee just might be really good. I really think if he feels like he can win where he is, so [he'll] stay. Mitchell, I think always want to go to the Knicks and the Embiid thing is just like watching a slow-motion car accident with just where that franchise is going. And he has a whole history with the Knicks,»

While Mitchell may appear as the obvious candidate to join the Knicks, given the speculation of him joining for multiple years now, especially after he was almost traded from the Jazz to the Knicks last year, do not discount the likelihood of the current MVP, Embiid, or the 2021 Champion, Antetokounmpo, as both have been publicly cited as unhappy with their current situations.
