In a recent press release, the University of Michigan made the decision to part ways with former NBA luminary and head coach Juwan Howard. Howard, who was a standout player for the Michigan Wolverines as part of the legendary Fab Five alongside Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson, has now been let go by the university. His dismissal marks the second occasion in as many days that a former NBA player turned Division I coach has been terminated, following Jerry Stackhouse's exit from Vanderbilt.

It's worth noting that Howard attracted significant attention from NBA teams seeking coaching talent in recent years. Despite this interest, he chose to stay committed to the Wolverines. Under his leadership, the team secured the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament in 2021.

«The buyout for Howard is $3 million, which is quite small for a coach who'd had the recent success that he achieved,»

Pete Thamel, an ESPN contributor, penned.

Certainly, there's a chance that Howard might consider a comeback to the NBA, possibly as an assistant coach. His name could resurface for head coaching opportunities in the future, whether in the near term or later on.

Michigan, ending the season with a record of 8-24 overall and 3-17 in the Big Ten, marked its highest number of losses in team history. This disappointing outcome led to the Wolverines missing out on the NCAA tournament for the first time consecutively in nearly 15 years.
